Hey ppl, this is CanadaBound on his first day in Canada. Well, if you are moving from the US, make sure you send your original auto title to the US Customs at least 72 hours ahead. I did not and was ushered into Canada and asked to return to the US Customs after 72 hours to collect the verified title. Not much surprised by anything except the US money became sorta like funny money. Charging to a credit card and paying the Card bank gives ya best exchange rates with least loss toward commissions. I am still feeling fuzzy about the move. I am in a new country anyways.... and looking for a nice rental property to buy. Also need to find some reliable student renters soon...

The US customs were anal about a buncha bull crap. On the Canadian side, it was much easier. I loaded everything that I wanted into the truck so they asked me to list the stuff in the truck and that was that. Again, to save on the conversion rates, it is advisable to use credit card while paying vehicle import fees (182 Can$). Checking through the Canadian Customs was more relaxed and pleasant, more so than going through the US Customs who seem to be a buncha paranoid bastards. Well, it is time to welcome myself to Canada so I decided to take out a random girl I met while cruising the downtown lost in the drizzle... Yes it is drizzly whizzly in Atlantic Canada.

The Canadian border folks were stern until they checked the passport and the visa. Once they saw the visa, they were like long lost relatives! I was surprised at how friendly they were! They did ask me about funds, which I had as cash and cashier´s check but they did not ask me to show the money. On the US-side, the customs were like a bunch of crooks: they seem to think you are a criminal hiding something or other. When all checking was done, I did tell the US customs they need further training on how to spot a transgressor and behave more friendly toward the clients than go about with baseless presumptions and malign the atmosphere. I do need to go back to the border to retrieve my auto-title in 3 to 4 days. I also did not have a list of things I had with me but the Canadian Customs people gave me a list to fill in and were diligent in making sure that I have nothing else to follow me after I enter Canada. It is a good idea to make a list of things you got with ya and a list of things that will follow ya (if you have things to follow). After the madness of New York City, boy this town does feel like a vacation spot. Once the weather gets better, it is time to get on a riverboat cruise.
