| Subject: Work opportunities for immigrants in Canada |

Dear all, i am just about to go for an interview and be selected for a PR card and plan to immigrate to Canada. I am a recent Business Graduate and speak fluent English and French. I found a website where immigrants complained about the existing discrimination in Canada and lack of working opportunities. Now, is that true? Is it impossible to find work?

It woudld be helpful if we knew your source regarding discrimination against immigrants seeking employment. This is the first I have heard of it. Not to say that it doens´t exist.
Unemployment is around 7%, I believe?
Have you spent any time at Workopolis website? It is helpful.
You wrote that you found that information on a website, but as ironic as this seems, don´t trust everything you read on the web. The two sites you mentioned were from law offices selling their expertises- convincing you that you need them.
And no, I am just beginning (to think about) the process to immigrate as an American to Toronto.

I read about discrimination against latin american workers in a message board at www.canadaimmigrants.com (in the page of the Spanish version)
However we should note that a person´s perception might be inaccurate, and that there are good and bad employers anywhere in the world. Moreover, an immigrant who arrived recently cannot pretend to find his/her dream job right away. Everything takes time and a good deal of effort.

thanks for all your responses; here is some more information i have been asked to provide:

- Zedman: i graduated 2 years ago, so when i say recent, i do have 2 years work experience
- Miuki: i am applying from London to go to MOntreal or Toronto.
I have applied 3 months ago and now have an interview scheduled for August.
Anybody can tell me how much money does one need to live in Canada (per month)?
