hi, i am waiting in Canada too...
here´s my timeline as per e-client: CIC received my application Dec.31, Started processing on March 14, received a letter (I sent fingerprints) from me on April 27. And that´s it so far.

Do you think that if they needed more information, additional documents, etc. we would have known by now?

no, they did not send me a letter about the fingerprints. what happened was that i realized - two months after submitting the application - that i had been living in canada for a couple of years and should have submitted a police clearance from here too. so i called CIC to ask, and the call centre agent advised me to go do the fingerprints and send them.

does anyone know if we have to wait for Approval in Principle before sending a work permit application?

You have to wait until they send you AIP for applying WP. I applied my WP but they refused my applicatio by saying that I am not eligible to apply this document until I get AIP.

Good Luck.

Yanno, that is funny that you should say that because when I called the call center right before I sent my PR Commonlaw, spouse class in Dec 2004, they said I should send a Work Permit application along with it. And about a month ago I called the call center about something, and this person said the same thing along those lines. We were discussing some things and it came up. Soit beats me why two Canadian Immigration officers at the calls center say one thing and someone else says another. Weird. Maybe I am missing the whole point of this thread. Fill me in please!

maybe if you apply for the WP at the same time as the PR application - in the same envelope - they get processed together and it´s ok, you get the permit at the same time as the AIP. oh well. i guess i can wait a little longer...even though it is 5th month and my patience is running low...

WP (in reply to: Spouse Sponsorship ( In Canada))
Hi,

I´m waiting as well for PR spousal in Canada. I sent my application in in MArch 1. I was also told to send my work permit application at the same time. The CIC said it speeds up the WP process if it is all sent at the same time. They said that they will aoutomatically issue a work permit when the PR is approved in principal.

Also does anyone know how long it takes before you can check your file on the CIC web site. I try and nothing comes up.
