Have you been convicted OR charged?

This matter is bound to show up during your background and security check. I think you should get professional advice.

This problem will somehow have an affect on your case. Here is a hint for you, if you tell at the beginning that you have been convicted, you may be inadmissible to Canada. They will equate your sentence in your current country to the laws in Canada. However, if you lie about this and the CIC finds out, you are banned from Canada forever. My husband did something 13 years ago and when we applied (in 2003) his police clearance from his home country showed nothing on his record. We were truthful in the application about what happened in the past and he was found inadmissible to Canada. He was not allowed to visit and his file was rejected/denied for PR. We were full aware before we started the process that this might happen. I suggest you do some reading at CIC´s website about inadmissibility. Depending on your situation, you have to wait 5 years after the end of your sentence or when you committed the act to apply for rehabilitation. You are only considered rehabilitated after 10 years have passed. Here is the link for information about inadmissibility:

I agree with Kenny this is going to show up in your background/security check. However, I hope the above information helps you and good luck.
