poster Canuck appears to be hijacking our forum... filling it with stuff from other websites- including his own. while it is not technically offensive - it is certainly annoying. any chance to block his IP?

Hey Sharon and all,
Well, I have to disagree with you, Sharon, on this one. As long as Canuck (or anyone else) is following proper etiquete and is not being offensive, I think everyone here has the right to express his/her opinion. That is what a forum is for. I am, however, in no way agreeing with many of the statements that Canuck makes. Particularly the ones about Canadians being lazy and don´t like to work. I have been to Canada many times, and believe me, you can not build a country like Canada with a lazy population. On the other hand, as far as some of the other things mentioned, as difficulties for immigrants, I haven´t gone through the immigrant process as of yet so I can not say if I agree or disagree. There seems to be a concensus and even the Canadian government knows that the immigrants are having trouble getting foreign documents/experience recognized when job seeking. Everyone deserves the right to express his/her opinion, as long as he/she is not offending others. It´s up to the reader to believe it all, some or none or to draw his or her own conclusions and do more research. I think in a previous post months ago I raised the same issue that through CIC, the immigration process looks like a bed of roses, a simple process, easy to follow proceedures, etc. (e.g. Excellent marketing tacticts). But they don´t tell you that Buffalo won´t answer a letter or fax even after 4 months. Or that if you call Paris you get some jerk telling you that "you shouldn´t expect to get your PR eventhough you passed." Or you may not even expect that you are to be dropped from e-client and told that your file is "missing". So, as long as everyone is being respectful, there should be freedom of expression, don´t you agree? It´s good to see both sides of the coin. In the end, it is your personal perogative to evaluate the information and make your decision. Even though I read a lot of negative stuff about Canada through those forums I only believe some of it. After all, it´s someone´s perspective and experiences. Mine or yours may be totally different, depending on circumstances and our own personality and motivation. I was, however, quite shocked to read what that doctor wrote "8 reasons not to immigrate to Canada". He grew up and was educated in Canada. That gave him the chance to be what he is today and now he´s slapping Canada in the face, so it seems. Show some gratitude. If there are so many people fleeing India (or any other country for that matter) there must be a reason. Everyone has his/her own reason for immigrating, right? Let´s keep things in perspective and remain respectful of others and share opinions and comment and discuss. That is what a forum is all about. Sharon, you and the other Canadians are in a better position than I am to defend Canada, and now you have your opportunity. No one likes to hear negative comments about his/her country, but you can turn a negative into a positive. Don´t you think I feel bad when travelling when people ask me about the actions of my government and president (Bush). Anyway...this is much more invigorating than, "Share your timeline!" and is definitely relavant to the topic!

Menino... fair enough - I just have a problem with the same link being posted every 6 threads, or the entire contents of a website being cut and pasted into a posting.

you bet the immigration system is lousy. we are 2 weeks in limbo so I am right with you on the disrespect CIC shows its applicants. I also worry how my guy is going to transfer his skills into our Canadian job market. I just struggle with categorical statements about Canada being racist (when I am a visible minority in my own community) that we do not acknowledge credentials (when an Indian immigrant is the federal minister of health) and that people have applied for thousands of jobs without success.

that kind of hyped up drama is not helpful to anyone wanting to make informed decisions about their future.

In the same breath... I wonder what someone is thinking when they want assurances that they will find high end professional employment within 2 weeks of arriving in Canada. What are they smoking? It takes over 2 weeks to get your SIN number which you require to get a job. CIC asks you to bring a minimum of $10,000 when you immigrate. that is about 3 months of living expenses. why? because that is about how long it will take to get your bearings, find the bus routes, figure out our currency, open a bank account, find a place to live, get the stuff you need to survive and begin to scout potential employment. Job interviews take time, employment selection takes time, first paycheque takes time... reality must fit into the equation somewhere.

I am dismayed at how easily people buy into the notion that immigration is a cake walk... or that immigration is a death sentence. Simply said it is hard work - any county - any economy- any circumstance.

I agree with you there, Sharon...
Now you´re presenting your side of the story. And that is what is needed. Two (or more) viewpoints. I think that in any country immigrants are going to feel inferior (at least at the beginning). It´s normal. It´s all part of the process. Hopefully, in the end, after you get settled (in a few years) you will see the fruits of your labors and sacrifices.
There would not be millions of people (literally) seeking PR in Canada if it were a country full of beer-drinking, lazy hockey players. The other viewpoints defintely were extreme.
And as it was said over and over again in this forum and others...NO ONE IS FORCING ANYONE TO IMMIGRATE!

(I also don´t think it´s necessary to paste whole forum postings from other sites here. A link would suffice and if someone were interested he/she could do the research.)

I am glad we can all act maturely about this as I think this is turning into a stimulating discussion/debate!

Hi Sharon, Greg, Menimo;

First thank you for bringing this up.
Sharon, you should be probably the most respected on this forum and perhaps we should listen to you in this case. However, I have thought about it and concluded following:
As long as the user is not provocating others and following the "Forum Rules" stated in under forum rules section his/her postings should be remained there.

I suggest that we all ignore all postings that are not of our interest, as we did so far. This forum has performed very well and I hope it will stay that way.
