Subject: evidence of proficiency in language
  Hello,

I am doing PhD in USA. I am planning to submit my application under federal skilled class worker. I am not taking IELTS exam now, so I have to give written explanation for English laguage.
My question is
1) What is written submission explaining your training in English or French?
I don?t understand what should write for this. Do I have to write about my schooling, job etc. Kind of self certified letter.

2) An explanation of how you commonly use English or French.
I don?t understand what should write for this.

If somebody can guide me it will be really appreciated. Let me know if some sample is available some where on web.

Thanks

Vicky

Thanks TS,
after reading so much it seems IELTS is unavoidable. but for the time being. I have to submit written proof. So if you can give me some guidance on question 1 & 2 posted in first message. I will do that. Get file number, buy sometime(I have a written packet in front of me asking for same thing). If I delay it then my other documents will become old. I am busy till August and then I will take IELTS.

Help

Hi Vicky,
IF you are doing PHd in USa, you should be able to convince the canada immigraton about your good english. Here is what I wrote and it seems it worked for me. Now I received the medical forms and they asked to submit PCC etc...but never mentioned about the english...so I guess it worked....here it is what I wrote...

Subject: Explanation to establish English language Proficiency

I, XXX XXXX, have studied English language as a subject for a total of 14 years. This breaks down to 5 years in Primary, 7 years of secondary and 2 years at University level education.
I have attached the mark sheets for High school (10th), Intermediate (12th) and four University level mark sheets for session 198X-199X and 199X-199X with my immigration application, which clearly shows English as a subject taken at High School and University level. I have studied Grammar, composition, Business and personal Communication and English Literature.

Medium of Instruction at University level was English and I took extra efforts in improving my spoken English to prepare for future corporate world.
As the corporate language of India being English, I was interviewed in English for my first job as Graduate Trainee Engineer with XXX Engineering Company in 199X and also for all subsequent jobs in coming years. English has been the only language of official communication for me for last 9 years.

My work experience in the United States since June 19XX gives a clear idea about my English Proficiency levels. I have cleared multiple job interviews in English with the US based technology company XXXX SOFT Inc. in 19XX. After that I have worked with other US based companies like xxxx.com, xxxxx Networks as a consultant that required a high level of English Proficiency to communicate with clients and working with their team.

English has been the only medium of communication at my present job as a Systems Manager at XXXXX INC. since May 200X that require extensive reading, writing, listening and speaking skills in English.

English language has been the primary mode of social communication as well after coming to United States in Dec. 19xX.

With all above-mentioned facts, I reiterate that I am very proficient in English language and can read, write, listen and speak English very well.

To answer Vicky's question (in reply to: evidence of proficiency in language)
Hi Vicky,
I applied in the end of Nov. 2003 and I got my medical form last week. On the website they are saying that they are processing Oct. 2003 application right now . So it seems actually it is 1 month ahead what they say on website.
