Hi Guys,
I want to know if Serial number of electronic items are necessary to make GOODS TO FOLLOW LIST. If it is necessary then how to write the serial numbers for some item which I am going to buy in future like DVD player etc. I will be buying some stuff before I leave to Canada.

Before you arrive, you should prepare two copies of a list (preferably typewritten) of all the goods you intend to bring into Canada as settler´s effects, showing the value, make, model, and serial number (when applicable). Divide the list into two sections: the goods you are bringing with you, and the goods to follow.
You have to present this list to the customs officer on your arrival in Canada, even if you are not bringing in any goods at that time."
And I do not understand what the problem with DVD S/N???

I will buy the dvd player etc after I land in Canada and take it to Canada after 5 months when I will finally move to Canada. So I don´t have the S/n for it.

In that case you can put that DVD player in the ?goods to follow? list together with the approx. price but without s/n. I guess that should be OK.

As per rules, good to follow are the goods that you have before landing. Anything you buy after landing date is not considered as goods to follow and has to be treated as a new item. That is why the serial number is required.
If you import goods that are listed but with no serial number, you most likely will face customs problems and customes fees.
