Subject: Getting a morgage when u arrive |

In about 2yrs time I will be immigrating to Canada with my Canadian wife, she?s currently living with me in the UK doing her degree in psychology. I was just wondering how hard it is to get a mortgage to buy a place when you have just recently arrived.
I?m hoping to secure a job fairly quickly when I arrive (fingers crossed!) and my wife will continue her PhD in Toronto. Do I need to be working for a number of months/years? Is there somewhere I can start to look into this? Any information would be greatly appreciated
Regards,
Karl.

(in reply to: Getting a morgage when u arrive) I don´t know alot about this subject but here is my suggestions...
get copies of anything that will substantiate long term financial commitment and responsiblity - leases, car payments, credit cards etc.
When you arrive in Canada, check out the larger Credit Unions. They tend to be far more open minded about lending polices and will likely give you what you need far sooner than a chartered bank.

(in reply to: Getting a morgage when u arrive) Best advice: brung a load of sterlings! Something like 50 grand. You can borrow the rest and many banks will finance a house if you meet them halfway in cost!
