Subject: IELTS question - Part III
  Okay,
I had discussed with some folks last week abt IELTS expressing fears that I will have to re-appear etc etc. and the books to refer for the test.

Well, I got the results, overall 8, least being in writing (7). I am so releived that don´t have to attempt it again (for 2 yrs at least).

For people who need to attempt the test with "LESS" than a weeks preparation, please refer to the following book :
Cambridge IELTS 3 - It was a great help to me.

Thanks and wish you all good luck.

Prince,

You have to take the "General" test exam. I think "Academic" is for students applying to prospective universities..

You can refer to www.ielts.org for more detailed information.
Academic "reading" and "writing" sections are different from that of the General test format. As a thumb rule I can say the "General" format is easier.

I wrote the exam in DC. Its a straightforward process, starts at around 8 am and with the listening, reading and writing sections in that order. You sit in a class which is supervised. That was the easy part. If you are lucky then you don´t have to wait long for the interview, else you may have to wait for upto 5 hours (worst case). In the speaking test - DO NOT RUSH YOUR WORDS/SENTENCES, go at a normal pace. Its a good idea to record your speaking and listen to it or get it reviewed by someone.

I suggest you practice from the book I have mentioned earlier in this thread. Its a good one. If you are able to get 80-90 % right answers regularly, then you can expect an 8 in listening and reading.
Well, writing and speaking are upto them to decide and varies from person to person.

Wish you the best !!
