Subject: Immigrating to Canada.....finally being together!
Hi...I have been dating my Canadian boyfriend for 2.5 years now, ever since we met while studying in France. We have kept up a long distance relationship (phone calls everyday, emails, letters and frequent long visits) ever since we both left France to return to our countries of origin. When he finishes his masters this coming summer, we plan on getting married and I will hopefully be able to immigrate to Canada. Here are my questions:

How long does it take to obtain a fiance visa?
Since we can prove our relationship, do I qualify as being a conjugal partner?
Would it be better to apply as a conjugal partner and then get married?

The whole process seems quite daunting. Even though the United States and Canada are so close, it seems worlds away. Help me!

Merci!

Hi There!

My girlfriend and I are in an almost identical circumstance. She lives in California, and wants to move to Canada January 2005 (5 months away). I have no idea how to go about this. Can she get a temporary visa? Is there any way we can be together within this time frame?

Thanks

In the immigration law as it has changed. There is no fiance visa anymore. There are only visitor visa,Temporary permanent visa, etc. but no Fiance visa. All you have to do is get her apply for a visitor visa and you guys plan to marry then you can marry in Canada and then process her/she by sponsoring while waiting in Canada. And that will do.
