Subject: Proof of funds - port of entry
I got my permament visa and now I need to enter Canada (but I am already in Canada with a student visa). Now I have to show the money when I re-enter to get my papers.
I have $3000 in my bank account in Canada and the equivalent to $10,000 in my home country bank account. Do I need to transfer this $10,000 to my Canadian account or I just need to show the bank statement from my country´s bank?

you need to show that you have $10,000 available in Canada to look after yourself. Does nobody (especially CIC) any good in a foreign bank account.

That´s what I thought. But they should have a currency convertion chart for immigration purposes. I don´t like walking around with lots of money in my pockets! :)

depending on your home country, perhaps you can wire your money to Canada in advance and show a Canadian bank statement, or bring a draft or Travellers Cheques.

If you are a student and are living in a residence then you can tell the immigration officer that you are set for the enxt 6 months as all dues are paid to the univ.

Second, You dont have to worry about the finance as you are already living in the country.

Also you could just borrow it from the Credit card and put it backto show your 10K.

Usually it wont be a problem as the immigration officer sees that you are coming from Canada itself. And you can tell that you already ahve the money in the bank...

It wont be dificult in your case.... dont worry...

I had 8000 in my account and the immigration went thru without any problems... and yeah... I live in Toronto.

Hi ppl:
I have a canadian dollar account opened in a bank outside canada and i deposited about 20,000 CAD in that. Now, if I am to enter Canada before Sept 2005, what kinda funds are needed as evidence/ proof.

I have more than 1-credit card, CAD account, and other bank accounts.

Question:
1. Do I need to carry all of these along with?
2. Given my credit cards, how much do u think I should carry along in person??
3. Do I still have to open an account with a bank in Canada??

Appreicate your responses. Thank u.

Does credit cards count? I have 1 visa and 1 mastercard, with $1,500 limit each. So, should I count as $3,000? :)
