Well here is my story for those who are interested and perhaps care to read and help. Im a Canadian born and raised. Met the man of my dreams halfway around the world in Egypt. 2 years ago, we married in Egypt. Had a hard time getting him a tourist visa to Canada to spend time with my family. Didnt get it due to his military requirements not being fulfilled. Darn military duty. Anyway. After a sad return for me to Canada alone. At this time I still had a job and a home. It was very lonely as Im sure most of you can imagine or have been through yourselves. Outrageous phone bills, long nights chatting on the internet. We both made the decision for me to live in Egypt till he took care of things here. Cairo visa office was horrible by the way and treated me like I was a whore and that I got paid by my husband so that he could have a ticket to Canada. Im sure it´s happened before, but to hear that when it´s SOO not the truth made me feel disgusted at that moment. Anyway onwards... I´ve been living in Egypt since 2003 and now we have a beautiful daughter who is 2 months old. We decided that it was best for us as a family to continue our lives in Canada. I want our daughter to grow up, how I grew up. I also want my husband to become a Canadian too as well. My daughter can become a canadian citizen by an application which will be done soon. Now we are getting papers together to begin my husbands spousal application. I have a few questions. Anyone from Egypt who is going through there permanent residency visa here? What sort of timeline should we expect? Can they actually say no to us? He isnt a criminal etc and is a computer engineer. I have family in Windsor, Ontario where I was born and we plan to move there. Ofcourse I will be applying from outside of the country as I dont want to seperate from my husband and also take our daughter with me. I can find enough proof for CIC to show we are going to live there etc. In the application itself, where do I exactly place our daughters name lol. Its so confusing. She is a Canadian citizen so she wont be sponsored. Do I put her in the additional family member form? Also, if god willing we do get this visa for my dh, can we land in Detroit and enter through the border in Windsor? As it is so closer then landing in Toronto and travelling from there to Windsor. Or do they need a direct flight into Canada? Also, does anyone have any experience in shipping goods to Canada, like home supplies etc. I have no idea where to begin with that if its even worth it with costs etc. Well thats it for now. Im sure I will think of more later lol. Thanks for reading! A Canadian who misses her home...

Doesn´t seem to be too long in Egypt.. 80% done in 7 months but Egyptians tend to report things inaccurately lol who knows .. hope not

Many strange strories out and about. Kinda fun reading. Anyways, landing in the US may not be a good idea for your hubbie. He is Egyptian and so is Bin Laden´s Deputy. Americans and leery and weird when it comes to north Africans. Moroccans bombed Spain! Well, even if it is troublesome, land inside Canada and go to your home province or town by land. He may get to see a few bits of Canadian landscape along the way... Regarding what troubles are awaiting you during the application process: I have no idea and hope they won´t be too many.

Unfortunately sad but true... last year when I went back home for a visit.. I entered through Detroit, and Im Canadian and MANNNNN did I get the 100th degree because I came from a Muslim country and I am Muslim and one officer even said to me I dont look muslim and if I worked for a terrorist group etc .. sigh sad to hear it.. I kissed the ground when I finally got into Canada.. they just said to me Hi welcome home and have a nice day.. Wouldnt want my hubby´s trip to be ruined with that.. didnt even think of it.. thanks for reminding me

my fiance was INVITED to the US by the department of Commerce. They put him in a room for over an hour interogating him before they would allow him out of the airport. He had to report 2 hours early for his departure so they could do the same thing again.

I will never subject him to that kind of treatment again.

Hi Ellif:

Cool. From what I read, first complete your daugters paper work quickly. That helps when you do the spousal sponsorship. The rest is available on the CIC pages and several fora. You could find info as you keep looking......to me looks like all will be OK, nothing complicated in my view.

Avoid entering US, go direct to Canada. Good luck and best wishes.

Hey thanks for the vote of confidence. What I heard I can get our daughters passport within a week and that her actual citizen card would take longer not sure how long though lol Just thought I would wait till her baby acne is gone lol till I get her headshots taken. Poor thing .. getting better though :) Yeah Im totally going to avoid the US now that Im thinking clearer. Not a big deal driving from Toronto to Windsor.. only about 3 hours. I hope its straightforward with the sponsorship. Still not sure how to go about shipping stuff though... seems FEDEX would cost an arm and a leg..
Now if only I can blow some of this 40 + weather over to my parents in Ontario and give me some cool air that would be great :P
