Subject: email from Beijing regarding parents sponsorship
The following email has been received yesterday (6 weeks after CIC announcement!) from the Canadian Embassy in Beijing:

"As per the news release of April 18th 2005, The Honourable Joe Volpe, Minister of Citizenship and Immigration, announced measures to speed up the processing of sponsorship applications for parents and grandparents coming to Canada as family class immigrants.

Our office is currently finalizing applications received up to March 2003 and will not continue processing applications received after March 2003 until 2006 or 2007. Due to the high level of applications in process we are unable to provide more detailed information on how the new measures will affect your parents´ application.

Given the importance of meeting our target of economic immigrants, the goals of our humanitarian program, and the priority we place on processing close family members first, we have to make difficult choices. This means that, at this time, applicants in the parents and grandparents category are experiencing longer processing times and the processing times may continue to grow longer."

Didn´t Volpe say that they are "tripling" the numbers (after cutting them from 22,000 to 6,000)? Didn´t he say that "Additional processing will begin immediately"?

When was it? 6 weeks ago? Well, "immediately" doesn´t necessary mean tomorrow, as one of the Liberal Ministers told us. It doesn´t necessary mean 6 weeks as well.

something to think about.

you are making a very big assumption. You are assuming that CIC is still working to a quota of 6,000 even though CIC has said otherwise. Perhaps the backlog is so large that they are already processing 22,000 international applications for 2005. You do not know based on this email. Perhaps you should find out -that would be the responsible thing to do. You want integrity from CIC, then you should live to the same standards.
