Subject: CL Spouse application- notifcation of receipt?
Hello!

I sent in an application for my common-law spouse about 6 weeks ago, and we haven´t received any notice that they´ve even received it. Is this too early to expect something? How long does it normally take?

THANKS for your help!

Hello,

If you are an outside applicant (like myself) then your sponsor will receive a letter of sponsorship approval or refusal from Mississuaga very shortly. We sent our applicantion on March 08 and he received the sponorship approval letter on March 30. Don´t worry, your sponsor will hear soon. If you are an inland applicant, then I am not sure what happens.

Patience is the key.

Regards,
Ozinca

I´m actually the sponsor for my partner. I´m just a little worried though, because it´s been 43 days since the application arrived at the office, and we haven´t received any notification of receipt. We´re both living outside Canada, but the guy at the embassy here said to send the application directly to Mississauga. Hope he was right!

Yes, you were right to send the application to Mississauga. I just had a look at the CIC web site and they are now opening applications received June 28 and the processing time for this stage is 38 days. So, you really should be getting something soon. Remember to factor in postage times into your expected timeframe. How did you send your application? Did you send it by normal post or did you use a postage tracking system from your country. When I posted my application I used an express post system which allowed my track the progress and confirm the date it arrived at Mississagua.

I sent it registered mail, and tracked it to see that it arrived June 14. Where can you see that they are processing applications from June 28? And the 38 days time that you refer to, is that total processing time, or just approving me as a potential sponsor? There are SO many different estimates online for how long such an application takes.... I really wish I knew what to expect. We are taking possession of an apartment October 1, and my Swiss partner has a job interview in the first week of October. It would be SO great if it all came through before then....

Hi Julie,

For processing times for Mississauga go to:

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/department/times/process-in.html

You will see that Mississauga takes 38 days to process the application for the sponsor. This is only the first stage and then Mississauga will send the application to the visa office where your partner has current right of residence. Each visa processing office has different timeframes. Go to:

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/department/times-int/2003-Q2/07-fc-partners.html

and just scroll down to find the city/country the permanent residency application will be processed.
