Subject: Landing Procedures at Toronto airport- Pl. advise
  Hi All,

I will be taking direct flight to Toronto soon.

Can anyone pl. explain what I can expect on arrival at the airport.

Also,I am basically carrying clothes and jewellery for myself and as gifts. Do I need to disclose exactly how much of it is for myself and how much for gifts?

How do I prepare a list of items I am carrying? Are there any sample forms or formats available?

Thanks.

Depends from where and for what reason. Need to be specific on your question, like are you a landed immigrant or a student or a visitor?

What are the formalities required on landing at toronto airport for landing as permanent immigrant?

Hi,

My husband landed in Canada in March at the Toronto Airport and it took 10-15 minutes for the meeting with the immigration officer. When you meet the first immigration officer, she looks at the form that you fill out onboard the aircraft. She asked us what the reason was for our visit and we told her we were immigrating to Canada. The officer asked us if we had any goods with us (we only came for two weeks on holidays and then returned to Switzerland) and we answered no, that we were coming to activate the visa. She then told us to go to the other immigration office to speak to another officer. It is here where they verify all the information on your COPR. Please make sure all information is correct as this will be stored on your PR card. For us, she never wanted to see any other documents even though we brought our marriage certificate and bank account statements to show that we have money. If you are applied through the skilled workers category, you have to have proof of funds at the landing. The officer asked my husband if he had a recent photo with him. We didn´t have one with us so she took him to the back and took a picture of him which will then be used for your PR card. The officer then welcomed us to Canada and sent us to this guy who was sitting at the exit of this office. This guy gives you information about getting a SIN (Social Insurance Number) and how to apply for OHIP (Ontario Health Insurance Plan). He welcomed us to Canada as well and wished us good luck. Once that is done, you go to collect your luggage and then you need to clear customs. It is here where they will want to see your list of what goods you are bringing into the country and what will follow later. I do not know much about the customs procedure as I have not experienced it. However you can go to the website of Canada customs for more information. You can click on the link below to read more about immigrating or settling in Canada.

I hope this information helps you. Good luck in Canada.

no. there is usually some sort of information kiosk at the airport that could direct you to a hotel.

Canada does not provide temporary housing for new immigrants. That is your responsibility and part of the reason you are required to bring settlement funds.

PR Card Photo (in reply to: Landing Procedures at Toronto airport- Pl. advise)
i see number of posts regarding PR Card Photo Problem and then Re-take. referring starchief landing experience mention above such facility available in all POE? I mean in all the airport immigration office or only in Toronto? We are planning to land in Vancouver. Should we bring a new set of photos for all family members - is that ok? or immigration office/officer should help us taking photo in spot?

it´s a very important issue as we will stay there in Canada only for 2 to 3 weeks and return back my native country which is very far away from Canada. So photo retake will cause a real difficult situation for us and thereby we want to avoid such.

please reply and thanks in advance
