Subject: Experience With Paris Processing Times?
I am from Switzerland and applied for a Skilled Workers Visa in May 2003 via the Canadian Embassy in Paris. My File Number was assigned at the end of August 2003. I´ve nothing heard since then. When inquiring about the status 1 year ago I was given the standard answer that the processing time is approx. 24 - 36 months. Has anyone from Switzerland (or any other country under the jurisdiction of Paris) applied via Paris within the same time frame and heard anything since? Does anyone know how I should proceed? Many thanks in advance for your replies!

Hi SwissGirl,
I´m Belgian and applied as entrepreneur via Paris. My AOR was Dec.´04 and waiting times were still 24-36 months, ridicilusly long isn´t it ? It is very hard to find anybody going via Paris, I wonder why ,thus it´s hard to compare timelines.
What I heard so far is that actual processing time is indeed 2 years, all depending how long the background check is taking. I´m born and raised in Belgium and didn´t live anywhere else, so I´m anticipating a 2 year wait.
If you are AOR Aug.´03 I guess you should get your IA soon.
Can I ask if you are a Swiss citizen ? ever lived out of Switzerland ? And last one, do you know of anyone else´s times through Paris ?

I applied as SW in dec 03. Got AOR in Mar 04. Since then silence. It seems it´s taking 3-4 years for those guys to process a PR visa. Only if they employ somebody else we´ll see our processing times reduced. (or if they work extra-hours!) Please Swiss Girl, let us know when you get the IA to see what we must expect.
John, where did you hear that about the 2 years? Is it 2 years the whole process? If so, I should get the IA... yesterday! Thanks!
Ops! I´m from Spain (born and raised)

Hi John and David,
Thanks for your replies. I am a Swiss citizen and lived once for one year in Israel and for a few years in the States (submitted for both countries police certificates, so I guess this shouldn´t be an issue). The last 20 years I have continuously lived in Switzerland.
Unfortunately I don´t know anybody else who has applied via Paris. The issue with the slow processing times doesn´t seem to be related to the number of officers working in Paris but with the quota and backlog(see http://www.immigrate.net/law/en/VisasLaws/Default.asp). This is why I had wanted to compare the timelines with other applicants in order to determine if my application month (August 03) still has a chance to be dealt with this year. So I fear the delay has nothing to do with the background checking but with the fact that they haven´t even picked up my file yet to look at it!
David, where do you live, in Spain?

we applied (SW) June 04. Got AOR within weeks. We had problems with our file, maybe that has been to our advantage because we were asked for medicals and ROLF in February 2005. we are still waiting for PP request. Home contry - Tunisia.

our time line matched what was being shown on the CIC website for 2003/2004. all of a sudden the wait has shot up... but you both applied around the same time we did.

it seems very strange.

There´s no logic in those times at all. Paris is getting to New Dehli times where backlogs are 4 times the yearly targets ( Paris has a backlog of about 60% the yearly target ). I did had some communication with Paris though, where they promised me my process time could be " considarably faster " if the province of Ontario ( where I want to start up a business ) would give a positive advice, they even gave me all contact data. I travelled to Toronto where I had a meeting with people from the Ontario ministry of economics & trade. That was about 2 months ago, last week I mailed them my businessplan and they´ve let me know they liked it ( well...I worked for more than a month on it :) ) and they would forward it to Paris with a positive recommandation. Now , if Paris holds up their part of the deal, I might be moving out beginning next year.
We´ll see....but I´m sure that a bit of initiative is very much appreciated by the officers working on your file.

Swiss girl what is wrong with Swiss cheese? I would say come over, visit Canada for a few months this summer and head back to the mountains... Why you wanna move here? Maybe we should exchange spots: I move to Swiss mountains and you replace me here... In Canada! LOL

I am keeping my fingers crossed for all of you that things will move forwards and I shall also let you know when I hear anything from Paris.
John, thanks for sharing your experiences about your meeting with the representatives from the Ontarian ministry of economics & trade. With your initiative you have certainly already demonstrated your enterpreneurial skills! May I ask what sort of a business you intend to start? Wishing you lots of luck!

Hi Swiss Girl, sorry to hear you´ve been waiting SO long. Which town in Switz are you, if you don´t mind me asking?

If anyone knows anything or can ask maybe next time they have contact with Paris what the waiting times are for SW from Switz, that´d be fantastic. The waiting times given by CIC used to be inconsistent (one CIC site said approx 1 year, another said 2-3 years). Sadly they all seem to have shot up suddenly since the beginning of the year to 2-3 years. Yet some people seem to be getting their applciation done very fast, and others like Swiss Girl seem to be waiting and waiting...

I am a Brit in Switz about to apply for SW through Paris in about 2 weeks. If I am really going to have to wait 2-3 years for an answer I will have to reconsider seriously. I already have very ithcy feet and the idea of stayin in my town (and job) in Switz much more than a year or so is not good! I would need to majorly re-plan my medium-term goals if it really is a 3 year wait. So if anyone has any info at all, please do share -it´d be much appreciated.

Wishing Swiss Girl, and all the Paris crew a speedy and successful application process!
