  Arnab,
I read your response and was a bit surprised and dissapointed. But I need some clarifications.

You said "Hence before travelling, go to Indian Embassy or your respective embassy to get a tourist visa. If they find that you are of an Indian Origin and you dont have any Indian Visa on your Canadian Passport, they will ask for your Indian passport. When they issue you an Indian visa, they cancel the Indian passport and return it back to your as a souvenir."

Why would the Indian embassy CANCEL the Indian passport (assuming that India allows dual citizenship)

Moreover just refer to the following link and look under point (4) - Benefits and priviledges. (pertaining to India only)

http://www.indiaday.org/government_policy/dual_citizenship.asp

It states you need to show both passports while entereing India, but can travel in and out on a foreign passport (say Canadian).
Now whether dual citizenship is already in place in India.... I don´t know. But if it is then your opinions may be wrong, right ??

Please enlighten us !!

Raj,
This dual citizenship thing is going on for last 5 - 7 years now. Few months back Indian Embassy in Toronto started accepting application however they havent issued any passport as yet.
As of today, again they stopped accepting applications for Indian citizenship because Govt. of India is planning to include few more middle eastern countries in its list.
So the conclusion is "There is no dual citizenship" as far as India is concerned.

My point is, why you guys want to spend CAD 1525 to lose your Indian citizenship and again you will spend another CAD 1500 or so to regain it back.

So my suggestion is, be focussed in life. Choose a country where you want to live and live there for ever. Canada is a great choice.
I am talking like an immigration lawyer. No I am not. I too lost my job after 911.
When I came into Canada in late 90s, IT market was booming elsewhere however getting a job was as difficult as it is now. My friends went to California, Carolinas etc and were offered 70-80k as a start on H1B those days.
The funny part is, in year 2001, those friends who left Canada called me back to find out job oppotunities in Canada.
Canada´s market is pretty conservative. Its not like US. Things are quite stable. Jobs come and go but if you have metal in you, you will shine.
Thats all for now.
Good luck.

Arnab,
But when India does have the dual citizenship in place (maybe in the near future) I don´t think you would lose Indian citizenship when you become a Canadian citizen. Henceforth all that $$ talk will vanish into thin air.
I have no problem with settling down in Canada, seems like a great place to be, but I want to keep my Indian citizenship too, keeping my options open !!
Good luck to you too.
