Subject: Landing without family members
I have got a notice to send passports and photos for myself and my family to get stamping for immigrant visa. I am staying in USA and at present I have no long term plans to immigrate and settle in canada. So, I want to just go alone for sake of landing and get the PR/SIN card.

Is it possible to land alone without family ?
If yes, can I get landing fee for my wife back from consulate ?
Is there any advantage of landing by car instead of air ?

Thanks for your time!

Once you get the visa stamped for you and your wife. You have to land togather to validate the visa. There can be complications if your wife lands later on.

You cannot get the landing fee of your wife. It can only be refunded if you and her dont land in Canada and decide to stay in the US. If you cancel your plans to immigrate to Canada you can ask for refund of your landing fees.

For landing... you can land either by car or by air... it makes no difference... just that by road it will be a bit easier because they dont get many cases about that... where as at the airport you may see more people landing at same time.

Now for sake of Landing... when you land you fill out the papers and apply for PR card. the PR card is sent in about 3-6 weeks (usually 3 weeks) and so is the SIN card. so you may consider staying in CANADA for that time... unless you can ask someone to collect if for you and send it back to the US. Choice is yours... but once you apply for PR card and you move out of Canada and if you want to come back you will have to get a landing permit(travel document) from the consulate to visit Canada.

I understand from your message that you want to cancel you wife´s immigration. Yes you can land alone and get your PR and SIN Cards. If she still wants to land, then she has to do that before the expiry of her Visa. If she does not want to land you can wait till her Visa expiry and then apply for the fees refund for her case.
