Subject: Post Landing Worries..Anyone Please Help!!
Has anyone have any idea for the questions that I have:

1. If one immigrates under the Business Category, then how
much money is one expected to bring with him/her, Are your funds as
declared under the business immigration category checked at the point of entry?, And after landing there....does one have to invest that amount of money somewhere?

2. How many days does it take to get the drivers license, what license
can you temporarily work around with, for the time that you dont have a canadian
license?

3. One has private Insurance to buy for the first 90 days,
can someone send me some contact info , so that I can get the pricing, and
how good are the plans, I have my wife who is pregnant.

4. Has anyone considered buying a house, what are the various
considerations when you start looking for a house, should you go for a
old/new house, what are the construcntion costs for a new house(I mean
construction cost per square foot - I know many answers you might not
know, but you may come to know if you ask some one)

5. Is anyone aware how easy/hard is it to get teaching jobs in Canada/Toronto?

6. How does one take care of an infant at home?

7. How good/bad is the business? can one manage to get financed from a
bank if one has some specific business plans, or does one have to
invest him/herself?

8. What city does anybody recommend for initial settlement on arrival?

9. How expensive is it to buy a new car/ what should I buy old/new
car?, which manufacturers are preferred?

10. After how long after arriving in Canada should one consider buying a car?

ANS 2:
In Ontario there is a graduate license scheme. Which means you get a learners license (G1) then you have the G2 license which allows you to go in the city and on the highways but you have some restrictions. After that you have the G license which is totally unrestricted.

You get the G1 license once you clear the written test. To drive with the G1 license you need someone with 5 yrs of experience to be seated next to you. Next comes G2 which you get after taking the road test. You can drive alone with a G2. Most of the people buy a car once they get a G2. Time period between getting a G2 once you get the G1 is about 6-8 months. once you get the G2 license you again practise more and you apply for the G licence which enables you to go on the highways freely. More information available on (http://www.mto.gov.on.ca/)

For temporary accomodation you can use your foreign international license for upto first 90 days since you entered Canada.

To get around use the public transport - Bus, Subway, Street car... what ever is availabe.

If you have to go to work and you have an infant at home you will have to hire a baby-sitter or put the kids in some sort of day-care or somthing. a Day care is generally more economical.

ANS 7:
I am not sure about it but you will have to show a solid business plan to the bank. They may ask various questions to you regardin your plan. Also in some cases they may ask for previous year´s tax returns. As you are new in the country you may be turned down on that base but keep on trying.

I personally feel that a big city is better... Yes, we have more costs involved in living expenses but more people better business and better job market.

ANS 9:
Price of car depends on the make, model and extra luxury accessories... If this is your first car it is advisable to buy a low costing car and dispose it after 1 year. This will enable low insurance in the first year and you can build a good insurance credit. After that you can but a new/used car and use it...

---------------------------------------------
ANS 10:
You can buy the car the very same day you get the drivers license. A car is not a luxury in Canada; its a requirement. so sooner or later you will need it. In places like Toronto you can avoid using a car by taking a place along the subway line. You can use the subway to go to work. Ofcourse the rents will be a bit high but it ends up being cheaper considering you wont need a car and your expense is only the monthly metropass (transit pass)

If you have a business and need to transport stuff then for sure you will require a car and there is no option to that.

Good Luck
