Subject: common law sponsorhip - legal to work?
  hi guys,
i just landed in canada as an immigrant.
i plan to sponsor my bf who i have been living with for a year now.
i was wondering how fast would the process be and how long
will it be till he is able to work legally in canada.

please help us out....

Sponsorship process is about 9 to 15 month. He will be able to work once he lands.

You will have to show your Option C printout of your Notice of Assesment for the most recent tax year.

Since you just landed, you will not have one.

Make sure you keep good records of your paystubs, so you can show that you are able to provide for your common law, as you must sign an undertaking saying you will provide for him for 3 years.

You will have to explain why you have not filed taxes (you are new to Canada) and hope that they except your other documents showing proof of income (pay stubs, letter from your employer, T4s if you change jobs)
