Subject: Student Visa/Landed Immigrant Visa
My sister is interested in applying through an Immigration lawyer for the Canadian Landed Immigrant visa. After the initial evaluation of her credential the immigration lawyer confirmed he could successfully process her application. We are planning to submit her application soon. However she also plans to pursue graduate studies in Canada. Will her application for the Landed Immigrant Visa affect in any way her application for a Student visa? She plans to commence studies in September 2006.
All inputs will be highly appreciated.

Reni you better find out for sure if she can do these things in the order you mentioned: I suspect that once she files for PR, she will have to wait until a decision is made about it before applying for a student visa. However, once she gets a student visa (without any PR application pending), she can enter Canada and then pursue PR application from within. Ask Departure Bay and a whole bunch of others on this forum who are now students in Canada and in pursuit of PR as skilled workers.

in canada

What "In canada" said is true. Iam a student whose PR case is pending Passport request.
It would be advisable to get inside canada as a student, see the culture and then apply from within to
buffalo.
If at all you want to file PR from your country i would recommend you to do it after you get student visa.Otherwise the visa officer can always reject the student visa saying that since she has applied for her PR, she do not have intentions of returning to her home country and refuse a visa.Hope it helps.

For how long you have been waiting for PP since your medical?

I am in a similar situation (finishing PhD in Canada), waiting for PP...

I applied Nov. 2003, and had medical/ROLF in Sept. 2004, nothing since then...

IELTS Waived for landed immigrants (in reply to: Student Visa/Landed Immigrant Visa)
Is there a formal request form or something to be used for getting IELTS waived for immigration to Canada. Does TOEFL help in this. I am in US for 3 years working as researcher. Will really appreciate any suggestions on this.
Thanks.
