Subject: JOBS PROSPECTS IN CANADA
  Hi Everyone

I would explain abt myself, a Computer Science Graduate with 7 years experience. My experience was in Cyprus and UK, As of now i am working in the UK for past 3 years. I am into software development. I am a MCSD Certified as well. I got my PR papers last week and i have sent my passport for stampimg. I was looking at the forum and have seen many people advising me not to visit canada and some even say that there are no jobs in canada as well.

But when i applied to canada, 3 years ago everything was fine, i know as time passes by everything changes, It would be of great help if anyone can guide me abt the situation over there as of now.

Thanks & Regards
Linus

Linus,

To say "there are no jobs in Canada" is crazy. Canada is not a large refugee camp where everyone is being fed by foreign food relief... we are G8 nation with a GDP of about $21,000 US per capita. Our economy is not the best in the world, but it´s in the top 5%.

There are lots of jobs here, including a lot in software developement. It may not be as good as the UK, or it may be better, I do not know.

Who are the many people who advise you "not to visit Canada"? This may not be your #1 choice for your career move (or it may) but it certainly a great place to visit. Montreal, Toronto, and Vancouver are world class cities... there are two beautiful oceans (well, the third is hard to get to) one of the most stunning moutain ranges in the world, vast temperate rain forest, the second largest borreal forrest on the planet. We have the most lakes of any country on the planet... and vast stretches of wilderness.

Canada is a first world nation, with many tourist spots, many great cities, great people, its safe, not as expensive as western Europe or much of the US. Its also about 6000km wide and 4000km from north to south. There is a lot to see.

Immigration is one matter, but by all means, please pay us a visit... you will enjoy it.

Dave

Linus,

I don´t know the concentrated areas for software developement. Canada is, however, VERY urbanized, with about 1/3 of the population living in 3 cities (Toronto, Montreal, and Vancouver). I would guess these would be a place to start... perhaps Ottawa might be another...

As far as approaching them... anyway you can, email, call, write, knock on the door, make contacts with other people who work there, look for job adds in every possible place. Perhaps a multinational with locations in Canada, and where you are currently.
