Subject: Landing in Toronto: Need info
  Hi everyone,

Thanks for creating this forum and contributing to it. It has helped me a lot.

I plan to land in Toronto next month in July. I was wondering if somebody on this forum could tell me about the whole process if they either know about it from someone or have themselves been through the same.

Is it okay to land during the week-end ? If I am landing on Friday then how long should I stay before I book a flight back ? How far away from the Toronto airport is the government office for applying to get a SIN ?

Please advise. Manu thanks.

Bam,

1- You can land any day any time.
2- If you want to aply for the SIN Card after landing, then you should spare one day for that. The process takes about 30 min max.
3- The SIN Card offices are everywhere in Toronto, but they are far away from the Airport. Log to http://www.sdc.gc.ca/cgi-bin/hr-search.cgi?ln=e&ct=toronto and you will find a list of the offices in Toronto. Use their zip codes to map them on toronto map at http://app.toronto.ca/lit/imapit/iMapIt.jsp?app=TOMaps&viewdefault=true

Then decide. I recommend speding the night in Toronto and book on the next day.

On Note,

What about the PR Card? Please note that you have to provide the immigration office at the airport with a Canada address for them to mail the Card to you, kepp this data ready.

Good luck..

Saleh

SIN Card office is called the HRDC (Human Resource Development of Canada) and they are not open on the weekends... the typical work culture in Canada is 5 days a week. so on a Saturday-Sunday its a holiday...

Depending where you are staying and what is easily accessible you may choose to go to the St. Clair St. and Young St Office.

This office is bang oppisite to the St. Cair subway so very easily accessible.

If you plan to settle in Ontatio then you have to for the application of your health card. The OHIP card as it is called will come in 3 months from the day you land. But for all these make sure you have a canadian address...

SIN Card should be mailed in about 3-4 weeks and so will be the PR card.

Happy Landing...

Also I will be coming back to US after landing. So apart from SIN and PR card, what else should I apply for.

Should the PR be applied in Airport when I land on in the HRDC office?

Plus I will be staying in canada toronto for 4 days. Can somebody suggest some good places other than niagara falls near toronto.

Thanks.

Assist for arrive at Toronto (in reply to: Landing in Toronto: Need info)
I plan to arrive at Toronto around first week of April-2008. Therefore I want some guide line and help from you. I have neither any relative nor friend at Toronto. I expect your kind co-operation and assistance in my initial days at Toronto right from my arrival at airport. I hope

In case, I have to take any special care before proceeding to Canada then. I welcome your valuable guidance.

Regards.

Landing 2nd Time (in reply to: Landing in Toronto: Need info)
I first attempted to land back in 2005 but was denied as I got married. We (my wife and myself) again applied and got the immigrant visa. We are currently in Advanced Parole in the USA, should there be any issue that I need to be aware of (plan to fly to Toronto)?

Please advise.

Thanks and really appreciate your advise.
