Subject: VISA expiration
  Hi,

I have (i think!) a relatively simple question, and i´d be grateful for any help.

My wife and i (and our two children) are planning to emigrate to Canada, and are weighing up the fees. In relation to this, what i´d like to know is, if i make a successful application for permanent residence/citizenship from the UK, how long is my application valid for?

Many thanks,

FB.

As far as I know, every application is valid for exactly one year after medicals.

You are planning for immigration... so the CIC/CHC will issue you the immigration visa only when the process is completed AND that appropriate landing fees are paid. Once the application is complete the visa is issued till 1 year of day you took the medicals. For example you take the medicals on 28 June 2005 then the visa will be valid until 27 June 2006. (1 year from the day you take the medical)

About the fees... you have to put $550 for application fees and $975 for landing fees/person.

There is a clause for the children see how much youbhave to pay for them...

Whoaa there! Thanks for the replies, but can you clarify the process.

As i understood it, i´m here in the UK, and i apply to the CIC/CHC in the UK for a permanent residence visa (which could take years), and *then* we move to Canada.

Are you saying that i *first* go to Canada, and *then* apply to immigrate?

Sorry, i´m a tad confused....:)

No. first you have to submit your application for permanent residency in UK at the canadian embassy (CIC, UK). Then they will process it and once it is over ( which will take anywhere between 1-4 years), you officially become an immigrant and you can land in canada and live permanently in canada. I hope this helps.

In cases when visa is issued close to the medical anniv. date, they extend expiry by 6 months.
