Subject: Marrying a U.S. citizen
I plan to marry a U.S. citizen here in Canada in the new year. We would be living in Canada, and she hopes to find employment after the marriage. What would her status be following the marriage, and what would be the best route for us to take? Thanks.

Marrying US citizen (in reply to: Marrying a U.S. citizen)
Generally, if a Canadian citizen marries a non-Canadian citizen, the Canadian will have to apply to sponsor the spouse through the family class category. Spouse applications are given priority, however it may be some time before the spouse could work in Canada. There is also a chance that the spouse be refused permanent residence status in certain circumstances.

Responsed to Marrying a US Citizen (in reply to: Marrying a U.S. citizen)
I am going to be marrying a Canadian citizen in the next few months and I am wondering what would prevent me from obtaining residency in Canada? I am a US citizen. Is this common? Are we better off getting married in Canada or the US or does that matter as long as we have proof it´s a legal marriage?

Canadian marrying Us (in reply to: Marrying a U.S. citizen)
I am a Canadian citizen and shortly i will be marrying a Us citizen. Should I marry in Canada or the US, we will be living our lives in his home town in the US. How do the rules work for a canadian into the states, can I even work? Can I become a us citizen?

Cdn. Marrying a U.S. Citizen (in reply to: Marrying a U.S. citizen)
I too plan on marrying a US citizen. After numerous searches online to obtain information I find myself totally confused. Can anyone recommend a law firm in the Toronto area that is reasonable and can help make this process a legal yet simple process.

Thank you.
