Have your fingerprints done at your local police station (call first to make sure they do that; if they don´t, follow the instructions in the Buffalo Visa Office Specific Requirements package on the CIC site). This cost us $10.00 each, and must be done for all applicants and dependents over 18. Send the fingerprints in to the address on the back of the card; if you need it back quickly, state your deadline date on the front of the envelope, as well as in your cover letter (and be sure to get a tracking number!!!). Otherwise, the process takes about 10 weeks. Be sure to include an $18 check for each set of fingerprints, made out to the US Treasury. Also include the letter in the Buffalo requirements package; only the primary applicant needs to fill this out.

This is an incredibly helpful site with lots of awesome, knowledgeable people, and if you are just starting out here, I would recommend looking at previous postings to find out what´s current and what others are going through. This is a huge journey we are all on, and the more informed we can all be, the better off we all are. Good luck!

One more question to Wannabecanadian,
I have contacted the local police authority where i live. Apparently they do fingerprinting but i have to provide the cards. One officer told me that i should go to FBI website and print the cards. Do you have any input about this. Where did you get you cards? Your reply is appreciated.

Thanks again

Look in your local yellow pages/phone directory. Call some companies that specialize in fingerprinting. You may check under headings such as "security", "fingerprinting", "Investigators" etc. Most have FBI cards. SPECIFICALLY ask for FBI cards. Some police stations don´t use the FBI format. So, be careful.

Other option is to order cards from the FBI itself, but this could mean waiting.

I think the FBI cards can be downloaded from the FBI web page... that is how my wife did it.

I got our cards from our police station, but you can order them directly from the FBI at: FBI, Criminal Justice Information Services Division (CJIS Division), Attn: SCU Mod D-2, 1000 Custer Hollow Road, Clarksburg, WV.26306. Be sure to tell them it´s for Canadian Immigration. Good luck!
