Is it mandatory to take language test before applying for CANADA immigration? Can some one take this test at later stage after applying for immigration if required?

Sandy,

It is not mandatory to take language test(IELTS). You may apply without it but you have to furnish enough proof of your proficiency in the language(English or French) in the form of documents, reference letters etc.

CIC accepts applications without language results but has been asking most candidates to take the test in the later stages. They ususally give 120 days to provide the test results.

The best option would be to submit the application without the test results so that you get an earlier filing date, and then prepare for and take the test. Send the test results to CIC before they ask for it. That would save you some time later.

Hope this helps

Hi Sandy,

I am in a similar situation, I got AOR in Apr 05, without IELTS, but I worry they might ask for IELTS after IA,

My documents were mainly grades of A´s and B´s in college english/speech courses, work experience in US etc..
I am leaning towards giving IELTS...

Thanks for response friends.

As per suggestion I can go-ahead and submit my application to CIC. Suppose at the time of applying I have claimed for High Proficiency (Maximum of sixteen (16) points) in English (I?m confident about that). Later on CIC asked me to take test. What would happen if I score only Moderate Proficiency (Maximum of eight (8) points)? Would CIC reject my application?

Regards,
Sandy
