Testing for English - For everybody under the sun?

Subject: Testing for English - For everybody under the sun?
After submitting the application for immigration, which included transcripts form a top 25 college in the US, work experience in the US at a fortune 200 US based company and a letter stating other examples of fluency in the English language, I have been asked to take the IELTS testing to endorse my English speaking, writing and listening skills. Since the IELTS test in the nearest center is completely booked for the next 4 and half months, does anybody have suggestions on other documentation that I can send to satisfy the immigration office?

Has anybody had a similar experience? Was the IELTS exam the only resort or is there another option? Can I get an official letter from my company endorsing my fluency? Any comments would be much appreciated.

Thanks!!!

do what you want guys, but the IELTS test is the ONLY one officially accepted as proof for your language skills.

There are two approved tests for English Language proficiency:
IELTS: International English Language Testing System

CELPIP: Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program

Getting the acceptable score in one of these exams is the only sure shot way of getting the max points for English proficiency.

I am in te US....so I am assuming that CELPIP is not an option. Also, is there a certain score you need to get in the IELTS to secure maximum points for the English lang for immigration? Are the certain IELTS scores that correspond to immigration points?

Scarface,

You need to appear in the General Training option in IELTS. To get the max 16 points for English proficiency you need to score at least 7 in each section (out of 9). for more details visit :

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/skilled/qual-3-1.html

If the nearest center is booked try and get a seat in another center. As they have already asked you to appear in IELTS providing additional proof will not help. Prepare for IELTS and give it ASAP.

Hey Scarface,

if you are taking IELTS, make sure you go to the bathroom before you enter the testing room. They won´t let you out!
