Subject: Sponsoring wife

Hi all,

I just got my PR card a month back. I am currently in my home country(India) and am planning to get married. After my marriage I want to sponsor my wife and get her immigration processed.
I currently dont have a job offer in canada. Will this hinder my wife getting immigration.
Also if immigration is a difficulty for her, will it be easier to get my wife a visitor visa without my having a job.

Do let me know what is the best course of action for me.

Thanks

Nishant

have you landed? do not marry your wife if you have not landed in Canada. It will change your status and will void your PR. Land in Canada, return to India, marry her, return to Canada and then sponsor her. Other option...land, have her come as a visitor, marry her in Canada and begin an In-Canada sponsorship.

Critical...do NOT change your marital status between issuance of PR and landing in Canada.

Hi Sharon,

Thanks

I have already landed in canada and spent a month in canada after which i got my PR card. Then I returned to India. Now if I marry in india, can I get my wife a visitor visa while I am in India. I do not have a job offer in canada currently.
Do let me know if my not having a job now will affect my wife´s case/

also do u know how much time In-Canada sponsorship takes.

Thanks again

you must write her a letter of invitation to Canada. you may have some problems because CIC will think she will not go home. you may have to marry her in India and return to Canada to sponsor her.

Sponsoring wife (in reply to: Sponsoring wife)
Hi,

I am working in Canada from one year under temporary work permit visa. Six months ago, I had applied for immigration (permanent resident) in Canada and I am hoping that I will get immigration after 3 months from now. I am getting married after 4 months, after the marriage I want to sponsor my wife to Canada. My question is that should I sponsor my wife on visiting visa (getting visiting visa is quicker) so that once she will in inland I can sponsor her for immigration. Is it work? Or otherwise, I need to sponsor her from out side Canada for immigration, I read on cic web site that it will take minimum 6 months for getting immigration. Or Can I hold my immigration process for few months?

Please advice on this.

Thanks,
Brad
