Subject: FBI records. How long?
  Hello everyone!
Anyone has any idea how long it takes these days for the FBI recods to come? My buddy got it last year within 4 weeks. Im approaching 6th week now and .... nothing. I know they say 6-8 weeks... but, hey come on, it is all on a computer, 5 min work for them to pull the data. So, any recent cases? How long did it take?
How can you check if they mailed it or not?

Hi Cool25:
I just got my FBI records back yesterday; it took them exactly 2 weeks after payment. But...I originally sent in fingerprints without a letter stating a "deadline" and request for them to expedite; the next day I read on this forum to definitely include those things or it would take 8-10 weeks (confirmed when I called FBI customer service). So, we had fingerprints re-done and I sent them in via UPS (mistake--too expensive) with a tracking number (recommended by FBI customer service and lots of helpful people on this board). Unfortunately I included payment by personal check, so a week or two after I sent the second set of prints, a nice guy from the FBI called to let me know that I´d need to send in a money order instead. I did that the next day, and two weeks later, the fingerprints reached my mail slot. What a silly ordeal for such a simple process! Anyway, the things I learned: 1.include a "deadline" date and request for them to expedite it--in a letter AND on the envelope, 2.pay with a money order, and 3.use a tracking service (USPS is cheapest). Customer service is awesome, and they were very helpful. I was also told that every piece of mail sent to the FBI goes through stringent security measures, so to expect a delay of a week or two there, on top of 8-10 WEEKS for processing. If you used a tracking service, you can call them to see how far along they are in the process; again, I found them very helpful and understanding when it comes to Canadian immigration.
Good luck!

wannabecanadian, thanks for your reply on this. By any chance, do you have that phone number they called you from? Or any other number for that matter that I could call them up and see what can be done?

I should have thought about the deadline date. Stupid stupid mistake. Too late for this now, since it´s been already like 5 weeks or so

The phone number is 304-625-5590. You can ask if it would be worth it to resubmit new fingerprints with a deadline date; I was told that after the mail goes through security, it is sorted into two piles: expedite, and regular timeline. They really do their best to get it to you quickly if you let them know. If you used a tracking number, there might even be a way for them to track down your fingerprints and expedite starting today. It never hurts to ask--the wait is LOOOONNNNGGG no matter what!

Thanks for the phone number (for other folks: press option 3 when prompted)!

I called them just a few minutes ago, the nice lady said she will do her best to help me out. She also asked for my FedEx account so that the papers can go second day air. I think I will have it sometimes next week.

Great news! Are you nervous to send the application in? I am totally nervous; I know I´ll be up all night worrying about what I might have forgotten. I guess, too, after so many years of dreaming about this, actually sending it in seems very significant, even though it´s just the beginning.
Best of luck!

It is really really great that you are at the point of actually mailing it all in. Congratualtions!

Im not that much nervous. Really. Somehow waiting for the endless papers in USA (that are still gonna be pending in DOL for another 100 years, since 2001 for me) made me totally numb for it. But I tell you what, I do have a feeling of a great relief and hope for a better change. At least with the points system you know approx. where you stand and if you have any chance or not. It helps a lot, don´t you think?

hey guys... the day you mail is the beginning of the end - in a positive way. for sure the point system helps you know if you are in dream land or not. if you have the points and your criminal record is clean... it is only an matter of time. Sit back, relax... join our crazy world of waiting.
