Subject: Married just after sending the app
  I was reading some of the messages relating to my situation but couldn´t really find any that would trully fit my situation. So, I decided to post a thread and see if anyone would be able to help.

I will be sending my application next weekend as a single person. However, I will be married in about 4 months and due to certain reasons we cannot get the marriage certificate until then. I am European and my fiance is Malaysian. We were never married before to other people. We are both in the US for many years now. Obviously, I wanna send in the application ASAP. I live in Texas, she is now in Washington (due to H1B reasons). Do you all think it would be ok in terms of the application processing to get married when we can (4 months from now) or would it complicate lots of things? What is the procedure? Would the fiance status do any good now, or should we wait till married and then do the fix to the application?

I will trully appreciate all your expert help.

Just send in your application. CIC will send you a letter acknowledging the receipt of your application. On the letter, you will be provided with a file number so after your wedding, you send a fax to CIC advising them that you are now married to so and so. CIC will send you a letter requesting that you submit some documents for your spouse.

It will be a good idea to go ahead and submit the initial application and get a file number. This will keep you ahead in the game! If you are very sure you will be getting married in few months, it will be a good idea to get some of your spouses documents ready as well (such as birth certificates, wedding certificates etc.) so that as soon as Immigration asks for them you can send them out right away.

Hi TX_and_WA,

You dont need to worry about anything regarding adding your spouse to your application. What you can do is start gathering all the required information for your spouse. Generally it takes a long time to get PCC so you can apply for it a couple of months before your get married so that you have everything ready by the time you get married.

Another advice if English is not your native language then appear in IELTS (if you have not done that already).

Yes, I got my IELTS done, and my application is all done and ready. The thing is that some other threads mention the fact that the process may take longer at some stages because of the changes being made, etc. Do you guys know if that´s the case here? I figured that since i wasn´t assessed yet, just got the file number, then it wouldn´t make much difference. am i wrong?

P.S. everyone speaks with some abreviations. what are they? i only know what AOR means, lol, since that´s my piece of the deal for now :-)

cool25, that is correct. since your file has not been assessed yet, adding your spouse will not cause any delay (slight or major) to your application.

aor = acknowledgement of receipt
