Usually it expires in one year for permanent residence.
If you had it to get your visa: study/work permit, accompaning husband, it won´t work for PR.

if you had the medical examination to coem to Canada, it´s good only for that occasion. When you apply for PR, there is a special procedure, during which you will be requested to get a medical examination anyway, at least ones

I know of an instance where my friend did not need another medical exam since she already had one for her job. She just applied for PR and showed her medical exam she had taken to come to this country 2 years prior. Maybe things have changed this year but this was 2004 when this happened.

medicals are good for 1 yr only from the date you had it. if you got your visa already and had not land, your visa is now expired and you have to apply from the beginning. however, if you had your medicals already and had not received your visa, cic may request for you to re-do your medicals, pay the medical fees again, if they feel that it will take a bit longer for them to make a decision with your file. if it will take them not that long, they normally would just extend your medical expiration and you have to land before the date set by cic.
