I am about to apply for canadian immigration (I have collected all required docs), But wife has beendiagnosed with Stage 1 Cancer. Doctor´s say her expetced lifespan is unchanged.

What is the suggestion? Should I go ahead with applying or not? Its the question of in excess of $4000.

Thanks

we have just applied to emigrate and husband had testicular years ago. i got a letter from his physician, his oncology consultant to verify that his condition would not be a burden on the canadian health system. i then contacted our life insurers to get a letter to state whether this had a impact on our life insurers. then i submitted material on the type of cancer that it was: a stage one teratoma. i would look at the designated medical practitioner handbook and then u will be able to see the guidelines the doctors work from when they do your medical

Hi Mar:
I just applied as well, and last year I was diagnosed with a rare deep tissue sarcoma (cancer) on my leg. I had a surgery to remove it, and although no surgery is ever 100% effective, it´s incredibly unlikely that it will return. I have talked with both my dermatologist and my surgeon, and neither believe it will cause any problems. The guidelines mentioned above by Karen Wild reassured me that cancer, especially a non-life threatening one, is highly unlikely to be considered reason for rejection. They are more concerned with transmittable diseases like TB, which poses an enormous threat to the general public. Now that I´ve read what Karen Wild submitted, I regret not doing the same; of course my application just went out this morning! Well, she has some very good suggestions. The immigration doctor you´ll have to see eventually will be able to determine whether or not immigration will consider it serious, too; of course that´s long after the costly fees have been paid. My advice: apply. It´s unlikely to have an impact.
Good luck, and please keep us informed!

wannabecanadian,
thanx for your compliments. however, you can do the same and send them later as the high commissions have clerks whose sole job is to add extra info to peoples files.
getting that info in fact delayed my application by a couple of months and i was not happy at the delay. also, i realise that all that info was over the top, but i felt that they wud really need to have a great excuse to deem us inadmissable. at least if u get your proof later then more time has surpassed which proves that u are surviving!!! now i just have to lose weight coz that is considered a burden more than curable cancers!!!!

Cancer diagnosis (in reply to: Cancer)
I´m posting this reply in the hope that some kind party may be able to offer a comment or two.

I am in the process of submiiting to a medical examination with the local DMP. I have previously worked in Canada on work visa prior to the diagnosis when I returned to NZ for treatment for cancer. I was diagnosed with coorectal cancer in 2003. Following surgery and chemotherapy (wonderful stuff) subsquent testr (colonoscopy, CT) remain clear. What view do you think CIC will take in considering my application? Thanking you in anticpation of any replies.

i think that you will be fine. get some stuff off the internet regarding the high cure rate of this cancer, get a letter from your oncologist and physician and submit it. make sure it is all positive stuff. take stuff to DMP.

Thanks guys & gals - That was re-assuring. Perhaps some one knows of such cases - approved or rejected by CIC?
