Just in case you didn´t know, Ph.D. stands for Pile High and Deep! Yes you can be all that once you have piled high and deep enough. In fact, there is a stupid woman from Egypt who became a dean of engineering school at U of Toronto. Try your best shot and you might succeed.

do Ph.d´s have any value in Canada..I meant if a person comes to Canada after his masters and does Phd in Canada. Will he be employed soon?

No they don´t if you spell "immigeation".

I agree with ano I have seen a lot of stupid PhDs for Profs.

Even though I must admit I´m doing a PhD as well, but I hope I never turn into one.

But not to be any smartass, and to answer your question:

Yes PhDs have a lot of demand in US and Canadian Universities and Corp. world. You´d actually even save something after all the taxes with what one pays the PhDs.

No PhD does not help your immigration process in Canada. (MS and PhD points are same).

However, it does help in securing a job (I have no idea on demand of engr. PhDs in Canada) so in that way it helps in immigration process.

Doing PhD in Engineering reduces job opportunities in Canada. Companies usually prefer MSc than PhD, mainly because sometimes PhD is treated as over-qualified for a job and also applicants with PhD demand more salary. I have seen many PhD students converting to MSc after coming here. Unfortunately, I´m in the PhD program.
