Nia, not sure if you noticed, but besides the amount of days to process (which is just an estimate, each week the number changes a bit... last week it was 55 days)... they give the date up until which they are openning applications. The processing time is based on that date.
I´m waiting also for the renewal of my work permit, which i sent on june 13... I assume it reached them between the 15 and 17... Next week, they will update the date up until which they are openning applications... currently June 8... so in my case for example I expect mine to be openned either next week, or the following.
I dont think you can expedite the openning of your application by calling the CIC. They don´t really have record of it until they open it. And the processing itself is quite quick, a few days after opening. So be patient.
If it is a renewal of your workpermit, you can continue to work even if yours expires (and even if it says that you must leave Canada). That´s what the CIC call center has told me... there is no problem to stay beyond that date until you hear from them regarding your application for renewal.
