IT jobs... What sector, the software sector is overloaded due to Indian industry focusing on it.. but other sectors are free afaik..
Network engineers with cisco certs (CCNA and above) get hired within few month.. I have couple of friends, bilingual with networking experience who got hired within 1 and 4 month upon arrival in their domain.. also broad knowledge specialists and IT security secialists are in demand (all levels of security, from crypto engineers to network and infra security)

Michka,

I´ve been wondering the same thing. Since that´s my area of expertise (network engineering). I´ve looked through the different online job postings (monster.com and the like) and it looks there are quite a few jobs out there for non software tech people. All of the jobs require an MCSE of some sort NT, 2000, 2003 and CCNA is requested, but not as often. I haven´t seen any CCIE requirements for jobs, so I don´t know if that level of knowledge is in demand. A degree of some sort is also a plus. Some want a 4 year degree or equivalent experience.

I don´t think that´s true anymore. While a CCIE is a great and all a CCNA and MCSE is going to have many more opportunities for employment.

If you can´t configure/maintain a Microsoft network your not going to find as many jobs. It´s just common sense, there are more small to medium businesses with small networks using Microsoft than there are large corporations or ISPs that need advanced routing.

That´s the way it is here in the US and I imagine Canada isn´t much different.

what I am seeing... small business owners (20 staff or less) are convinced they have someone ´in-house´ that can maintain the network. It becomes part of their job discription along with other skills. They only bring in the highly skilled pros when they get stuck.

I have known employers to pay for additional training for existing staff to help maintain the general network needs.

Hi sharon..
Yes it is almost the same everywhere with small companies..
So I see a multiedged professional will get rolling fast out there..
I´m an expert in Microsoft technologies (MVP,MCDBA,MCSE,MCAD) as much as Cisco (CCNA and soon CCNP).. so hope it will be good for me.. :o)
