I´m Australian and my boyfriend lives in Canada, we have been together 1 year, but not lived together for at least 12 months so we will opt for the sponsor spouse way. We plan to marry and he wants to sponsor myself and my 9yr old son for PR. He is not working at the moment and I have some past criminal history from 10+ years ago. Will my application be refused immediately because of this or is there a chance that I will be allowed PR without it being dismissed immediately. I have poured through countless websites and i still dont have half a clue of what to do.
Any help will be greatly appreciate as I feel absolutely helpless at the moment. =)

to make sure you have do all the right things, I think I would use the services of an immigration consultant. you will probably have to get some sort of ´rehabilitation´ documents and I think there might be some requirements around bringing your son. (permission from the father, proof of funds to support etc)
