Subject: Right of Permanent Residence Fee (RPRF)
I applied to Buffalo as a Skilled Worker in May 2003. In February 2004 I was asked to do my medical, submit more documents and pay the RPRF.

A couple of weeks ago, I got another letter from Buffalo asking me to pay the RPRF ASAP or my application could be delayed!!!

I know they received my first payment since I sent the envelope registered, but the certified check has not yet been cashed (checked with my bank). I don´t know if they lost it, simply didn´t look in the envelope or just send out the letter automatically.

I sent a fax explaining all this together with a receipt for the check, but of course, no reply yet.
Can I afford to wait, or should I send a new payment? Perhaps they can refund one in case they accidentally cash both?
Has anybody else been in a similar situation?

I think I understand you... there are 2 fees. the first $550 (?) goes with the very first application forms. They do not look at anything without this money and you do not get anything back if they decline your application. Then there is a second fee $975 that must be paid before they will complete the application. If they decide not to accept you, they will return this money to you. If you have only paid the first money... then they are asking you for the second money. If this is the reality, you must move very quickly to pay so you do not lose your application. I hope I have understood you correctly. Good luck.

Thanks for your replay Sharon:)

Unfortunately, it is the RPRF that they are asking for twice. I paid the Application Fee ($550) at the time of first applying, then the RPRF ($975) at the time of my medical exam. Despite that, they are asking for the RPRF again!

oh my... you are so close! I would hate to have you lose everything over $975. I know, it is a lot of money and hopefully, they can sort it out but I would be inclined to send it again. Maybe your letters are crossing and it is an easy refund rather than losing your money. I would send it again! Good luck

Hi,

You should request a stop payment on the former check and send another check.

Thanks for the feedback on my situation!

I actually did buy another bank draft today and I sent it to Buffalo. "Better safe than sorry....." It´s a lot of money, but yes, I rather argue about the refund than mess up my application at this point.

Unfortunately, you can not stop a bank draft or certified check once it leaves your hands. You can only check to see if it has been cashed or not. It´s as good as cash for the inteded receipient :(
