Subject: Temporary Resident Visa to Canada from Manila.
  Hello,

I could not find a newsgroup about tourist visits to Canada, so I must ask my questions here. I am a citizen of the Philippines who wishes to visit Canada as a temporary visitor later this year or next year. I have gone to to the Canadian Embassy in Manila web site. But I?d still like to hear some advice from fellow Filipinos who have made the same trip already.

How does the process go and how long does it take? Is it true that there is usually no interview?

If an interview is required, what time do I have to be there? How long does it take?

What advice can you give?

What can I expect?

What documents did you bring that helped to have your application approved?

How high are the chances of being denied a visitor visa to Canada as compared with the United States? I know how difficult it is to enter the States and, quite recently, a friend who was going there on a business trip told me nearly all the tourist-visa applications were
denied.

How much money would I need to have?

Would it help to show a round-trip ticket?

What can the host relative or friend do to help? Is it important to send a letter of invitation and proof of support? Or would the consul be more interested in proofs of intention to return to the Philippines?

I hope there are people here who can help me. I would be thankful for your advice. I?d especially like to hear of your personal experiences so that I?d know what to expect.

M.M.
