I just read your message about so many conveniences not being available in Toronto, and I´m curious about your experience. Do you mind sharing a few more details? Thanks!
BTW: yeah, it sounds like TO is having a horrible summer, gun-wise. Hopefully this will force the Canadian government to crack down on gun smuggling from the US.

(in reply to: TO: Newbee) 1 Convience I can say right off the bat, lots of stuff I find in the US are 24-hours. There is very very few stores across Canada that operate all night. McDonalds and Tim Hortons are mostly 24-hour operated. Aside from that, good luck.
I´ve been in the Greater Toronto Area for just over a year, Born, raised in Surrey BC the rest of my life. I´d move back to BC in a heart beat. This summer heat is disgusting as heck.
And to the person that said you don´t need to lock your doors in Naniamo, think again. Naniamo has one of the highest crime rates in BC. I wouldn´t trust anything there. (Which btw Departure Bay is located.)

(in reply to: TO: Newbee) auto stolen crime in Nanaimo is 700 cases annually,
surrey, 5000 annually.
which one is worse?
Sorry, I don´t know how did you get the impression that Nanaimo got the highest crime rate, I feel pretty safe. I never even heard anybody got murder these two years

(in reply to: TO: Newbee) in Canada, gun crime is big news because it is rare. same situation in US does not even make anyone look up.

(in reply to: TO: Newbee) That´s exactly right, Sharon, which is why I wanted to hear more exact details. Guns and summer heat are nothing new here, and I´m so used to feeling un-safe that I wouldn´t dream of going into a 24 hour place anyway. I´ve travelled quite a bit throughout Canada, and I read the Globe and Mail (and usually the Halifax Herald) pretty much daily, but I´m wondering about the impressions of a former American living in Canada. Of course living in a place is totally different than visiting, and I´m excited to find out first hand exactly how. For now, though, I´d love to hear other people´s experiences. Thanks to all who want to share!
