I´ve worked as a resident alien in the U.S. since 1972, rtaining my Canadian citizenship. Now that I´m retiring, I´m wanting to move back to Canada. May I do that and purchase a home there, or do I have to apply for re-instatement?

(in reply to: retirement) are we to understand you have not maintained your minimum residency requirements for Canada? If not, purchasing a home in Canada will not help you re-establish your status. I believe you have to reapply for your residency.

(in reply to: retirement) he said he retains Canadian citizenship, if so, he has Canadian citizenship, the only thing I concern might be, he didn´t contribute enough CPP, neigher qualified for enough year of residence in Canada, therefore, might not get old age security

(in reply to: retirement) No, in order to qualify for OAS, you have to be physically present in Canada for 10 years. It not uncommon for officers to request further ifno, such as passport, tax records etc to prove residency.
