| Subject: What are Elfs in Canadian home descriptions? |

|
This may be stupid, but as I often look at places for sale or Rent in Toronto I run across statements like, "all elfs," or simply "Elfs." My wife and I keep joking about little people in funny hats running around, but I know that isn´t right.
What are Elfs when referring to descriptions of residencies in Canada? (I own a home in USA, and have never heard of Elfs).

EIFS stands for external insulation finishing system

ELFS, used in real estate listing for sale of property. Means External Lighting Fixtures.
I have not come across it in connection with rental properties before.

Do you mean like Floodlights? Motion-activated lighting?

I think Elfs refer to Electrical Leave-in Fixtures,including fridges, stoves, washer and dryers, seiling fans, types of lighting fixtures etc. Basically anything electrical that can be tied to the home.

I bought a place and I was disappointed, I looked everywhere for the little Elves! Lying real estate agents! Where will I find cute Elves?

What happens is that they tend to hide until they feel safe with the new owner. At some point their leader will announce himself and introduce the rest of the clan.

Neighbours you are not alone! I am Canadian and also googled "elfs". I too think it is electrical light fixtures. To set the record straight I think this little term is definitely coming straight out of Toronto as I came across it while looking for real estate there as well. I can say with some degree of authority, given that I am from the East Coast, that all our elves are indeed real little men who cling to rocks and such and inhabit gloomy corner pubs with pints of ale and yes many of them are cute with their pointy ears and round pot-bellies but I have never seen them hanging about inside houses or barns or such. I think that predilection best suits the city dwellers amongst them!
