Subject: spousal questions
is there a forum for Chinese immigration discussion?
between this forum and Pinoy these are the only two I can find
both are great discussion boards.

got sponsorship approval on July 20 2005 and wifes application is forwarded to Hong Kong.
e-client has that as decision made
permanent application status is N/A

If anyone has gone through sponsoring a family member through China any comments would be great.

Family application through Hong Kong (in reply to: spousal questions)
We are also going through Hong Kong right now, but a little earlier than you. I was approved as sponsor in March 2005, and it took about 6-7 weeks before any news from Hong Kong once it was forwarded from CIC. After that, we had to send in some additional paperwork. Then, on June first, our application status online had medical results received added. It then took until yesterday for a decision to be made, for whatever reason. Now we are awaiting the decision letter.

From what we can tell, we are atypical for an application through Hong Kong, so you should expect about 3-4 months to complete the process, unless an interview is required. Once a decision is made, your spouse should receive a letter in the next month or so (they appear to send these letters out in batch) requesting your spouse´s passport to add a visa stamp, allowing them to land in Canada.

Hope this helps.

Our application´s interview was waived, so I can´t give you definite information about that. It seems if you provide enough proof of relationship and all of the information in your application is consistent, you have a good chance of not having to do the interview. Should you have an interview, I don´t believe you have to travel to Hong Kong with her, but i don´t know if it would help.

I haven´t heard about the landing interview before, and we´re still waiting for our passport request, so i don´t have any information about that.

She should renew her passport, but I don´t know if she needs to resend the copy in. If you haven´t received your file number yet, it might be difficult for them to track down your application to attach any updated passport copy you send, provided it has even arrived in Hong Kong yet.
