  Question for Sharon and others,

I´m in the process of Canadian Immigration and hope to be there in a year or 2. Software Engineer with a specialization in Enterprise Application Integration, married , a 15 month old baby, working in the US at present.

I understand that finding a job in Canada is quite a challenge and one might have to take up some ´survival jobs´ before getting the ´real one´.

We´ve been trying to save some money for our initial struggles in Canada after we move there. My question is "Just how much money can be considered enough to take one through the initial period?"

25K? 50K? 100K?

I know this depends on person to person and on other factors as well, Would appreciate if you can give a rough idea on how much should I have to be able to continue providing the same comforts to my family of 3? Making 65K in US, getting about 50K in hand, saving about 20K a year.

Anyone?

I think nobody here can really answer your question with certainty. I also agree with the others that you seem to have a pretty nice life in the US. However, if you are not a citizen, I understand why you would still want to be in Canada. It is a great country afterall with great plans for children.

Did you try applying jobs in Canada (via internet)?

I have to say, just save as much as you can so you can be prepared for possible months of unemployment/underemployment. There´s no harm in having so much money in the bank. With your open mind about survival jobs, I think you would be okay. Goodluck to you and your family.

PS....

per CIC rule however, you are required to have at least $15,387 (Canadian), for a family of 3.

come on guys,
USe some common sense.

There must be some reason why someone would be trying for Canadian immigration

Why do you see so many people in this forum? Everyone has some reason or some compelling situation that makes them take this route. No one leaves everything and everyone behind just to see how is it like living in Canada.

How and why do you assume that I will be doing what I´m doing or making what I´m making in the US 2 years from now? Please let me know if there is a law in the US that entitles everyone to a secure job or status for life. I will really throw my application in trash if you tell me one. Or do you think one should learn swimming only when he/she is going to drown. Well, live with the common sense that you have in that case. No one can help
