Subject: sponsoring parents and brothers
  Hi all,

I am a Permanent Resident in Canada and I would like to sponsor my parents and my brothers. I know i can sponsor my parents but I am not sure about my brothers who are both over 21 years of age but single. Can anybody advice me on this? I will appreciate your replies. Thank you in advance.

Two options to sponsor your brothers (in reply to: sponsoring parents and brothers)
You won´t be able to sponsor your brothers the regular way as you sponsor your parents. As you say - no problems sponsogiring your parents as long as your family income is satisfying the requirements.

Now, for your brothers to come you have two options:
1. They could try and sponsor themselves based on Skilled Worker program.
2. Once your parents are here they will be able to sponsor your brothers.

Good Luck,
Marinella

family sponsorship (in reply to: sponsoring parents and brothers)
I do not think I will tell you very good news. My friend, there are many people who want to bring their parents to Canada. There are many Canadians who say NO because they must pay money to look after parents who come and are too old to work or do not have skills or language. The process is very long and very hard. Unfortunately for you, Canada is looking for skilled workers- not relatives. It would be better for you if your brother came as a skilled worker. You and your parents would not be financially responsible for them. Immigration holds the sponsor responsible for 10 years. Just recently there are articles in the newspaper about the government asking for money to be paid by sponsors for family members who needed government help. They do not have it, but they must pay. It is not the best situation for anyone. Try to find another way, my friend.

hi sharon,

although what u said here made me sad, thanks so much for the input. Isn´t Family Reunification a priority of the Canadian Immigration? (btw, my parents are 48 and 53 and they are both college level)

thanks once again.

parents (in reply to: sponsoring parents and brothers)
I really did not want to make you sad...I am sorry. I just want to be very honest with you. Your parents are still quite young. The big problem for them, and for you is if they can find meaningful work in Canada. Yes, this is a great country, but the prospects for employment are not good if you do not have language skills. It is a sad reality that they do not tell you on the immigration sites. We have doctors who drive taxi because they do not have enough language skills to get their accreditation. Sometimes people are very disappointed that our wonderful country does not offer a wonderful life to its new Canadians. So, the biggest questions are about what your parents can do for income when they come. It is hard for anyone to find work at their age. (I am very close to that age so I speak from experience) I think their ability to work will drastically impact the results of your application. Do not be discouraged.

YES, you CAN sponsor your brother even if he is 21 years old, but he has to be full time student!!!!!
