Subject: Question Re: In-Canada Times
  Hi,
Could you please explain the In-Canada Application Processing Times from the website below with respect to Spousal Applications.

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/department/times/process-in.html

There are two different sections
1. Permanent Residence Applications (First stage of approval) - (6-7 months)
2. Sponsorship Applications (30 days)
Both having different times. Also, I am a new immigrant (2 months) is it possible for me to apply for my wife and then go and visit her in a different country? What are trhe implications?

Thank you guys for you suggestions and support, I am a VERY BIG fan of this forum. I appreciate your comments, etc.
Wishing you ALL the Very Best !!!

The first stage of the application is the Sponsorship process. You send you complete file to CIC-Mississauga where they access your eligiblity to sponsor your family member who are outside Cannada.

As your wife is outside Canada the second part of the applicaiton will be processed outside Canada at the visa post. If your wife is from you home country then the visa post will be the one that granted you your PR Visa. What you have listed as 1 is number 2 in the family sponsorship process.

Help this helps.

If the spouse is outside of Canada, the application is sent to CIC-Mississauga. If the outside is in Canada, the application is send to CIC-Vegerville.

There are 2 timeframes involved if you are sponsoring your spouse outside of Canada. First is the sponsorship approval which takes place in Canada. Once you are approved to sponsor your spouse, the file is sent to the local visa office for processing.

If you have just been in Canada 2 months only, were you married prior to becoming a landed immigrant? If so, you may not be able to sponsor your spouse.

Thanks for the info guys. I have just been married. Was considering whether it is best to apply for In-Canada or Out-Canada. What you are saying is that:
2. Sponsorship Applications (30 days) relates to them approving me and
1. Permanent Residence Applications (First stage of approval) - (6-7 months) relates to them approving her? otherwise 1. would be done in my country?

Info is much appreciated.

Sponsorship is done in CANADA
and Permanent Residence Applications are done in the applicants home country or Embassy that is responsible or the country.
