Subject: Toronto residents...Help needed
I am a new immigrant and would land in toronto on the 25th aug and would return back on the 30th aug.I was looking for temp accomodation and safehomestay is fully booked...I have a choice between sunnnynewcomer(located in don mills rd in finch ave and don mills rd in eglinton ave) and darry guest house(they have in 2 locations too...1 in finch ave east and don mills rd and another in finch ave east and victoria park ave).Kindly do let me know which is more convinient and better in terms of safety, access to local amenities,SIN office and access to shopping malls ,supermarkets ,restaurants etc)..also where it is reasonable to buy food since I need to either eat out or prepare my own food as its not available in the accomodation...also is it ok to show my proof of funds in UK ?? in my UK bank a/c since I donot have a canadian bank a/c...can I tell the officer at the airport that I could transfer the funds once I have my local bank a/c....Any help would be greatly appreciated..Thank You..

First for the fund, no you can not show non-Canadian bank staement as proof of funds. You need to carry cash, bank drafts, of traveller cheques.

For the accommodation and food issue, could you spend sometime on the internet and search outlets, SIN office, and transportation at the mentioned areas. It is very easy to do that for yourself and try all options. In general, all Toronto is safe during day time.

Good Luck

Yes you can not carry more than 10K, so either to get 10K in cash and the remaing funds requried as per your family size to be eiher in TC or drafts.

But no non-canadian stataments are accepted. You can also open an account in canada and transfer the funds toit prior to your landing.

So for a family of 3, we show need something like 15800 CAD. Do you recommend that I get a Draft for 10k CAD, and remaining 5800 CAD as Travellers Cheque??

Or carry all the 15800 CAD as draft?? pls clarify.

Thanks Saleh for the input.

Carry it however you want to...... there is no one better way to do it. You do, however, have to have it all with you.
Everything will be OK. Stay positive!!!

Good luck
