Hi Arjun,

I presume u r also applying from India. We were also planning to give TEF (we had claimed basic proficiency - 2 points) after doing a basic course in French from Alliance. But when we got in touch with some of the students who were at that time giving this exam, most of them said that it was difficult to get even 2 points in the first attempt. It is easy to understand why - even after doing most of our education in English (almost 12-14 years) most applicants still only manage a score of around 6 in IELTS. So learning a foreign language and knowing it in all 4 aspects - reading, writing, listening and speaking (grammatically too!) cud be difficult. However u cud still try if you´ve learnt French in school/college or have gone in for an advanced course. TEF in India is conducted by Alliance Francaise so why don´t u drop by and get some info from them. Or u cud go ahead and try anyways, maybe u can get through.

Good luck...

TEF penalizes you for incorrect answers so make sure you answer only the questions you understand. I simply skipped the ones I was not sure about.

Hi Arjun,

I decided not to give the TEF. I could not afford to spend one year or more in learning French and then not be able the clear the exam. And to add to it, Alliance was not giving any definitive answer and their response wud mostly be on the lines of "we can teach u the basics but then it depends from person to person, so if u don´t go in for the advanced course we don´t know if u will be able to qualify in TEF. (By the way, this was when I was applying for Quebec). Luckily for me, the points for Canadian immigration were lowered and I decided to switch. Here, we were getting the required points to qualify without TEF. So I have just bought some books and language CDs for French and am learning it at home. This is just to gain some basic knowledge which maybe be useful in Canada.

Ciao

How did you do Max. Can you please explain how you prepared for the test. Can I avail of sample exams etc? Any help at this point will be appreciated. I have no idea about the structure of the test
