Subject: TEF really needed?
I read earlier that for those wanting to go to Quebec the TEF is required. I have never come across that information before. Is that really true or not?
Anyone else who is thinking of applying to Quebec?
thanx

it´s a no-brainer that you will have to undertake one...unless you can prove that French is your mother-tongue...or can prove that you´re fluent at it..

I am not too sure about the Quebec sponsored program. However, I will tell you my situation. (Sorry for redundancy fellow readers).

I applied for PR in July 05. I have a Bachelor´s in French, teach at a French Immersion school, and have completed and passed the DELF A1-A4 (different official test, given by the Ministry of Education of France). Furthermore, I lived in France for a year of my college life, while studying there, AND took a summer of course work (three classes) at Laval University in Quebec City. Even after all of that, and documentation to show it all, they sent me a letter asking me to take the TEF.

On their site they state that the TEF is the only real proof of French ability they accept. So, unless your native language is French, then yes, you should be prepared to take the TEF. I´m taking it in three weeks, hope I do well.

I applied for PR outside Quebec...and even though they didn´t ask me to take the TEF...the CAIPS show that my official languages are French and English...that means they have accepted my french experience...

but I applied like 26 months ago...and now they are asking almost anyone to take language tests both english and french probably..
