Subject: Student Visa Question
Greetings, I am a US resident attempting to obtain a study permit for Quebec for the winter college term. I have a fairly simple question: Are you allowed to apply for a CIC and a CAQ from within Canada if you can obtain it within 6 months? I say this because I already have a roommate/apartment in Montreal and I will have to pay my half of the rent to reserve my spot... I figure I may as well live there while I´m paying rent :). However, will the Canadian government kick me out if I conduct my correspondence with them from within Canada, even if I have been there less than 6 months? Thanks for any answers!

Small typo in the second sentence, should´ve been "CIC *study permit* and a CAQ." Thanks!

Study Permit (in reply to: Student Visa Question)

I got some questions about study permit which I hope you could help answer:

1. Upon receipt of the letter of acceptance from a school in Canada and the start date of class is January, when would the immigration officer decide on the application assuming all the requirements have been completed?

2. If the decision is positive, what date would the applicant be allowed to enter Canada? One month or a few days before the school class starts?

3. If the school has an open admission for the applicant as stated in the letter of acceptance; can the applicant choose when to start? For instance, the applicant is admitted for the January and May programs. Can he apply now for study permit choosing the May class? Isn´t it too early?

4. If the study permit application is denied, can the applicant still re-apply?

5. If the tuition for one year is $10,000 and $40,000 for a 4-year degree course, how much should the applicant show the immigration officer to satisfy the fund requirement? Does the applicant has to have $40,000 in the bank in order to be approved of student visa?

6. Is it required to pay the one year tuition up front or only if the study permit application is approved? What if the application is denied when the tuition has already been paid?
